Welancora Gallery is proud to announce Oasa DuVerney’s second solo exhibition at the gallery, Into the Shining Dark. The exhibition will consist of new works on hand cut paper with graphite and acrylic. The opening will take place on Thursday, April 24 at Welancora Gallery from 6:00 to 8:00pm; this exhibition will be on view through June 19, 2025.

Oasa DuVerney’s artistic practice centers around recalling events, people and movements that she believes are essential to progressing solidarity for the liberation of Black and all oppressed peoples. Into the Shining Dark displays her specific interest in resurfacing histories of social and political rebellion that Black women have been erased from. The exhibition is named for Lucille Clifton’s 1975 poem the thirty-eighth year, as DuVerney’s works undergo a similar reflection upon Black womanhood, ancestry, and self actualization.
