About

Welancora Gallery was founded by Ivy N. Jones. The gallery operates out of a 19th century townhouse in the Bedford Stuyvesant section of Brooklyn, New York. The mission of the gallery is to represent an intergenerational group of artists by placing their work with individual collectors and institutions, publishing scholarly catalogues and holding major exhibitions. We find strength and agility in our size as a small gallery, operating out of a space that we own, in a location that is very community oriented. This unique positioning has allowed our program to grow organically through consistent programming in our space, while we expand our reach by exhibiting at The Armory Show (2024 and 2021), Art Basel Miami Beach (the main fair; 20232022, and 2021), Frieze Los Angeles (2024 and 2023), and EXPO Chicago 2023.

From time to time, we designate space in our schedule for guest curators to organize exhibitions. A few of the more memorable exhibitions at the gallery include Conjurea solo show of work by Aisha T. Bell, curated by Derrick Adams; RED, a group exhibition curated by Nico Wheadon featuring the work of Alteronce Gumby, Leslie Hewitt, Felipe Baeza, Jaishri Abichandani, Anders Jones, Dana Robinson, Joe Hayes, III, Eleisha Faith McCorkle, Joseph Collier, III, Soull Ogun, Lina Puerta, and Devin Morris; In the Future When... curated by Daricia Mia DeMarr, featuring work by Damien Davis, Delano Dunn and Tiffany Smith; How Did You Get This? The Spaces We Inhabit, featuring the work of Zalika Azim, Elliott Jerome Brown Junior, Collette Veasey Cullors, Melvin Harper, Daonne Huff, Anders Jones, and Deborah Willis, and Mirrored by Naturecurated by Corinne Gordon featuring work by Oasa DuVerney, David Rios Ferreira, Tajh Rust, and Adrienne Elise Tarver.
